For three years Terry Cook of Long Valley, New Jersey has been working on his latest creation. Inspired by the famed 1936-38 BUGATTI Type 57S Atlantic, this carbon fiber and composite fiberglass bodied prototype is still undergoing the final finishing touches such as the chrome side trim, rivets in the external fins, etc., not shown in these photos, which are being completed in summer 2013. When finished, this first prototype car is FOR SALE. Simultaneously, we are beginning to develop a fiberglass -kit car body of of our BELLA FIGURA coupe and PACIFIC fastback version of the classic 1937 Type 57S Bugatti. These, as well as a steel -kit car chassis, will be offered at a dramatically reduced price (to be announced). The engine in this PACIFIC prototype is a fuel-injected 304-cubic inch (4,988 cc) 1987-94 BMW M70B50 SOHC V-12. The air intake runners have been de-burred and polished and new after-market air cleaners were installed, otherwise it is unchanged. It is backed by a BMW 4HP24 EH four-speed automatic transmission with electronic control. DELAHAYE USA Type 57S Tribute cars built to order can be fitted with any engine from a reproduction straight 8 Type 57C Bugatti up to to a twin turbocharged RENNTECH Mercedes V-12 for an additional $120,000. Or we can supply them with or without any engine and transmission you desire. There have been a number of replica Atlantics built over the years including thirteen beautiful fiberglass and aluminum examples by Erik Koux in France (retired), several by Crayville in England, and one or two by the late Dedobbeleer of Belgium. From the outset our goal was never to build another replica, as that has been done admirably by the aforementioned artisans. Our motivation in taking on a project of this magnitude is to let our creative juices flow to deliver a smoothed-out, stylized interpretation that respects the T57S Atlantic. It s an artistic statement, a rolling sculpture. Thats why we jokingly refer to our car as a PACIFIC. With a one-piece curved windshield at a more rakish angle than the original, we are just tweaking and refining the design. It is intended as a homage, a modern Tribute to one of our four favorite designers, JEAN BUGATTI. Based on a 127-inch wheelbase custom steel tube chassis that is 10 inches longer than the 1937 Atlantic, a primary concern when designing the car was to offer more occupant room than the original car. We have had 6-foot 6-inch people sit in the car with plenty of head, shoulder, and leg room. The stainless steel tubular seat frames in our blue prototype are exact copies of those from RALPH LAUREN?S beautiful black Atlantic, one of only three original cars built with the distinguishing external body flange used to rivet the original cars together. This prototype has a 9-inch Ford rear with leaf springs and tubular beam front axle with leaf springs, copying the original Atlantic. Subsequent PACIFICS and kits will be offered with IFS and either straight or IRS, depending on customers choice. The wire wheels are 3.5 x 19 Daytons shod with 3.50/4.00-19 Excelsiors up front (and spare) and 5 x 20 Daytons in the rear with 4.75/5.00-20 Excelsiors. The seats are trimmed in brocade, a class of richly decorative shuttle-woven fabric, and trimmed with unique contrasting welting. If the brocade fabric is not to your liking, the seat cushions and fabric can be replaced easily enough with your choice of leather, ostrich, or alligator skin, etc. The remainder of the interior was trimmed in camel colored leather, ultra suede, and Mercedes Benz carpeting by JERRY AMBROSI of MASTER UPHOLSTERY in Newton, NJ, considered to be one of the top auto trim artisans in the Eastern USA. The prototype has power windows and air conditioning. This is a prototype in a limited series. In addition to his BELLA FIGURA coupe and this PACIFIC, if there is a demand, Cook would like to build a third variant, a drop head coupe inspired by RALPH LAUREN?S beautiful Gangloff-bodied 1937 Type 57SC. DELAHAYE USA is preparing to sell- kit car bodies and tubular steel frames, will offer rollers or complete turnkeys custom built to order for customers. To keep the costs within reason, the bodies are made from a mix of carbon fiber and composite fiberglass, or all composite. Aluminum-bodied cars are also hand built to order for a higher price. There were only three Bugatti Atlantics ever built, and they are considered to be one of the highest valued collectible cars in existence. In 2010 Peter Mullin and friends paid anywhere from 30 to a reported 40 million US dollars for Dr. Peter Williamson?s original Atlantic. Several years ago an Erik Koux aluminum replica Atlantic was sold for one million Euros. Our prototype JEAN BUGATTI Tribute Type 57S PACIFIC is for sale. It is titled and licensed for highway use in New Jersey. It took years to build, and if you want to wait another several years for our next PACIFIC, a black RALPH LAUREN Atlantic Tribute to be completed , the price of that one, with supercharged Cadillac LSA 565 HP engine and IFS, will be higher. Or we could build you a fiberglass body with a chrome finish. Price negotiable. - See more at: /Car//Bugatti/Atlantic/Replica/1937_Bugatti_Atlantic_for_sale_154430.html#
